Alien Registration

Any foreigner wishing to stay in Korea more than 90 days must visit the local district immigration office to apply for an alien registration card (ARC).

Reissuance of the Alien Registration card

Applicants must apply for re-issuance or modifications to the ARC card within 14 days if any of the following situations occur: (1) Alien Registration Card is lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed; (2) if the applicant needs to change any information on the card, (3) or if the card runs out of space for modification

• Copy of passport
• Application form
• Photo (3.5*4.5cm, white background. Both ears should be shown. Photo should be less than 6 months old.
• Application fee of KRW 35,000 in cash
• Certificate of Enrollment
• Residence Proof document(contract of housing rental, confirmation of form of accommodation)

Reporting Change of Information

All international students with student visa must report any changes to key information on their Alien Registration Card (ARC) within 14 days. These changes include:

• Passport name, date of birth, nationality
• Number, date of issue, date of expiration of the passport
• Change in residence
• University (in case of a transfer)

Reporting Change in place of residence

Within 14 days after moving into a new place of sojourn, registered foreigners need to file a move-in report to the head of the local Si/Gun/Gu. Alternatively, they may file the same report at the immigration office with jurisdiction over the new place of sojourn.

Visa for Part-time Work

If you are a Student (D-2) or Language Trainee (D-4-1 or D-4-7) visa holder if you have permission from office of international students, you may apply for a permit to hold a part-time job. First, the immigration (branch) office to process the paperwork. Then, you may start working after the permit is granted.

• 1Eligibility : D-2, D-4 holders.
  • D-4 holders must wait 6 months first. They can apply at the beginning of their visa’s seventh month.
  • Students whose attendance rate is under 90% and whose GPA is under 2.0 are not eligible to apply for part-time employment.
• 2 Activities allowed : Translation/interpretation, restaurant server, office assistance, etc.
• 3 Time limit
  • Undergraduates & language proficiency students: Up to 20 hours per week. Note: Up to 25 hours per week are allowed for students of a government-accredited university (including language trainees).
  • Graduate students: up to 30 hours per week
  • Graduate students (thesis preparation): up to 30 hours per week
  • Note: The hourly registrations do not apply to holidays (including Saturday) during the semesters and vacations. These periods are excluded in the calculation of hourly limits.

• 5 Required document : passport, alien registration card, application, part-time employment confirmation form, academic tran , a copy of the school’s business registration, contract, a copy of the applicant’s TOPIK certificate
• 6 Note : Documents of the students whose attendance rate is under 90% and GPA is under 2.0 cannot be accepted.

• 5 Directions: Take Busan Subway Line 1 to Busan Station. Take Exit 2 and walk straight on the left side for about 10 minutes. You will need to cross Daeyoung Road about halfway. Pay attention to the buildings. Eventually you will see the cylinder-shaped Korean Air office building. Look for the vertical rectangular blue sign on the building in front of a crosswalk. This is the Busan Immigration Office.
